In the novel "Congo", Travis, head of Travi-Com, a telecommunications firm, sends a group of scientists to the Congo in Zaire to gather diamonds needed to finish a breakthrough in laser communications technology.

and tribes are trying to shoot it down Karen Ross takes flares and throws them out the door so that the heat censored bombs go after the flares instead of the plane. Another difference is that Amy tried to save Dr. Elliot when he was almost killed by the bloodthirsty gorillas.
In conclusion, the book is very similar to the movie, yet there are some minor details stated above to make the plot more thrilling.
