the benefits of capital punishment is that it is a crime deterrent. If someone sees a person being walked to his execution on the news it will make that person think about his actions more closely. If he is ever put in the position where he would like to kill someone and knows that he has a chance of being killed if he carries it out, he might consider that before he completes the killing.
