The basic idea behind teaching is to teach people what they need to know." Because I agree with Carl Rogers, I must negate the resolution that When in conflict, academic freedom in U.S. high schools ought to be valued above community standards.

majority of people agree upon. When community standards are overridden, so to is my criterion of Democracy. With the affirmation of the resolution, the United States cannot be a democratic society, for people cannot dictate how their young are to be educated.
Negating the resolution will better uphold the criterion of Democracy, and negation will better uphold community standards and the criterion of Social Order. Thus negating better upholds the value of Democratic Social Order.
