That is what writings and songwriters do. They express what is on their mind by writing it down. Something that was a major issue is Poe life was death. The setting helped this theme of many of his short stories. Edgar Allen Poe's powerful use of setting creates a theme of death in the short stories: "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and "The Masque of the Red Death".
