three passages expose Steinbeck's bitter attitude towards technology. It is obvious that he feels technology transforms people into heartless monsters who plow and farm their land without any compassion for it. The basis for this idea is present throughout the entire novel. The Joads will encounter many more instances in which technology harms the land. To conclude, in these three paragraphs, Steinbeck expresses his opinion with his bleak imagery, his diction, and in his parallelism.
