Frederick Griffith is a scientist that was trying to discover a vaccine for pneumonia. The reason for his experiment was to see if injections of heat killed virulent bacteria would kill the mice. He found that the mixture of live non-virulent bacteria and heat-killed bacteria would kill the mice. The result would be live encapsulated virulent bacteria. This experiment became known as transformation that was named the transforming factor.

James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953. Miescher continued to work on the nuclein extracted from the sperm of the Rhine salmon for the rest of his life. He spent a lot of time on the chemistry of fertilization. Unfortunately Miescher failed to follow up his suggestion, to explore physical models of fertilization. However, other chemists eagerly took up his work on the nuclein, and by 1893 Albrecht Kossel had succeeded in recognizing four nucleic acid bases.
