Based on this result it may be postulated that the picture bizarreness effect is indeed a generation effect. Pictures without the name had to be given their own name by the subject. This self-generated naming produced better memory than for items that were simply read. Perhaps this is the most significant finding and conclusion to be taken from this experiment.
