Investigating Osmsosis - GCSE Coursework.
Planning. Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane. Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration, to an area of low concentration. So, Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from an area where there are lots of water molecules to an area where there are few water molecules. Our aim is to find the concentration of dissolved substances in the cells of a potato using Osmosis. …showed first 75 words of 754 total…

…showed last 75 words of 754 total…the potato cell's semi-permeable membranes to try and balance out the salt concentration in the surrounding test tube. As a direct result of this movement of particles, the potato's weight should decrease more the higher the concentration in salt. Therefore, the point at where there is no weight change (in between increasing and decreasing), this should roughly be the average percentage concentration of salt in each piece of potato. In our case it is approximately 0.4%.
