The time it takes for a planet to make on complete revolution around the sun is the planet's period. The squares of the planets periods of revolution are proportional to the cubes of the planets' average distances from the sun.
So if not for Brahe's determination to be the astronomer of their time, and giving Kepler that troublesome task of Mars, Kepler would not have been the first to realize the 3 laws of planetary motion.
