In the poem "The Flea", by John Donne, the speaker uses a quite peculiar method in an attempt to get something from his mistress. The poem is composed of three stanzas such that each of them serves its own purpose in explaining the speaker's situation. Upon closer examination, Donne weaves a truly intricate tale of one man's love for another woman through the actions of a miniscule flea.

making them weak, perhaps because the blood within the flea bound them without a proper marriage. In the speakers last remarks, he says that she might learn one day how her fears were all for nothing. He continues to remind his mistress that the death of the flea brought death to them all, and that she may never again know what it would have been like to have allowed him to make love to her.
