…showed last 75 words of 1252 total…even more importantly, these festivals and rituals all had their proper place in life, not overlapping very much with the ordinary events of everyday life. In this sense, then, I think it is safe to say that the Athenians fit my mold of a people not overly interested in luxury and gratification, and it is partly as a result of this, I suggest, that the Athenians--and the Greeks in general--were so successful as a culture.
