Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley endured many hardships during her life. Some of these included her mother dieing during childbirth, her loathing stepmother, and later in life, the death of her beloved husband. Although she maintained a strong relationship with her father, it did not cover-up the absence of a strong maternal figure. Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, was influenced by the pain she encountered in her life.

As if the woman had not had worse things happen in her life, more obstacles kept being thrown in her path. She was a tough woman with strong points of view, and she expressed them through her writing. Having written Frankenstein, she
became one of the first female science-fiction authors. Using her mother's death, her father's bond, and her stepmother's hate and jealousy, she wrote a novel that will be remembered for centuries to come.
