In the medieval town, the government seemed very greedy, taxing for things that needn't be taxed, and sometimes taxing for no reason at all, as if someone had just come into a lot of money, and the government knew about it, the "robbers" would come and tax them for seemingly nothing at all. they insist on being exact on all forms and formula's. If you were a rich Bergher, you could also buy your way out of prison, for a certain tax.
In conclusion, the government of Troyes seemed rather unfair. People got taxed for no reason, and the wealthy Berghers were treated much better than the poor folks. As Tibault said, the Government is really not much more than a money raising agency, disguised as a government.
