Introduction: Gerardus Mercator was a Renaissance man who devoted his life to the world of cartography. He has made some of the greatest contributions in this field and without these contributions maps would be quite different today. As a theologian, he tried to give us a new way to see the face of God. When that failed, he turned right about and gave us the technical means for seeing Earth whole.
