Resurrection is an important theme in Tale of Two Cities, metaphorically and literally. Sydney Carton, Madame Defarge, and Dr. Manette experience the most obvious resurrections in the book. Resurrection exemplifies Sydney Carton who is redeemed from a miserable life of working under Stryver to sacrificing his life for Charles Darnay. Finally, Dr. Alexandre Manette is resurrected in that, while he is imprisoned at the Bastille he is better of dead and is leading a life that is not his. When he is released, he learns to live his life again.
