The Rodney King beating and the not guilty verdict was the last straw for many citizens that destroyed, burned, looted, and killed in the streets of Los Angeles for many days in a row. As the riot appeared to be dying down, thanks to federal troops, the citizens of Los Angeles now realized that the mess they had caused was much worse than the mess that existed before the riots.
