Among the many atrocities he committed outside his country but mostly within his own borders resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands, Stalin was still seen to be successful. He helped clear the chaos which followed the end of the old order, boosted the primitive economy, educated millions and reclaimed former lost lands. Even aware of the harm he had caused, I still think he was a great guy.
