It is as if she has finally realised the seriousness of her situation, and realises she has GOT to do some thing to stay alive. However, at the very end of the play, where Doris says, "Never mind. It's done with now, anyway" and the light fades, this suggests that she has reached the end. That she cannot continue, that she has died.
