The Green Party, originally called the Association of State Green Parties, was formed after the 1996 elections. The initial goal was to help existing state parties grow and to encourage the formation of parties in all states. Helping existing state parties is still the primary goal. Party National Committee. The Greens are also partners with the European Federation of Green Parties and the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas.
The Green Party had a successful Nov. 5th election and elected more Greens in 2002 than any previous year. With some results still coming in, they have elected at least 69 people this year and have 172 members holding office. The Green Party elected, for the first time, people from Texas and North Carolina.
