Allegory of the Cave
The "Allegory of the Cave" is just that, an allegory, or a symbolic story. One should not take it literally. I like to equate Plato's allegory with education ... how one starts off in ignorance (chained to the dark well) and has to be compelled, quite against one's wishes often, to be unchained and start the "steep and rugged ascent" into the light, enlightenment, or education. do live in our own little bubble but we also have to realize that out there in the world there is so much to do. There is so much terrorism, so much hunger, so much poverty, so much death and yet most of us still continue to
prosper in our daily routine.
A 'reality check' is not anything to make anybody afraid of facing but it is something that we need to be aware of.
