Aim: To investigate how concentration effects osmosis on potato
chips.
Introduction:
I have been asked to investigate the effect of osmosis on potato chips. Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a lower concentration of solute to a higher concentration of solute, through a membrane.
I have chosen to investigate the effect of the water potential/concentration of solution on potato chips. This means that I will put potato chips into sucrose solutions

Solute- A substance that can be dissolved in another substance e.g. sugar dissolves in water.
Hypertonic- When there are less sugar molecules and more water molecules, which means that the water will move out of the potato and into the surrounding solution.
Hypotonic- when there are less water molecules and more sugar molecules, which means that the water will move into the potato from the solution.
