Styron writes, "...the last lines of that best known part of that poem, with their evocation of hope." It gives him hope that there is a path to his salvation. He conquers the darkness with the help of his family, friends, therapist and even faith. The immergence from obscurity gives Styron immense joy and a different view of the world.
