Wilfred Owens 'Dulce et Decorum Est' is a powerful antiwar poem, in which events take place during the World War 1. The theme of the poem is anti-war, and through the use of dramatic descriptions and vivid figurative language, Owen seeks to convince us that the war is appalling and horrifying. Owen uses figurative language to reveal the reality of war. In the first two opening lines he uses two similes, "Bent double, like old beggars …showed first 75 words of 697 total…

…showed last 75 words of 697 total…than what the devil can impose on us. We save little and lose what we can never gain back, we lose lives. We lose people like Wilfred Owen and many others who fought for their country but in return received a humiliating death. Furthermore, I agree with Owen, War is nothing but an appalling and horrifying experience which nobody should go through, and it would be right to say, 'bellum est nocens', War is evil.
