The demand for the enfranchisement of American women was first seriously formulated at Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. The Seneca Falls Convention was organized by Lucretia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton on July 19 and 20, 1848. At this convention, Stanton drafted the Declaration of Sentiments, which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence. In February 1918 women over the age of 30 received the right to vote. Suffrage rights for men and women were equalized in 1928. Other Countries such as Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland granted women the vote early in the 20th century. Other continental powers were quick to give women the right to vote at the end of World War I.
